Ceramic Incense Dish with White Spotted Lizard on Terracotta Stripe, 5 Inches Wide

This shallow ceramic dish is about 5 inches across. A wavy terracotta stripe runs through a black ground, with a white lizard spotted in black lying along it and small white spirals drawn around the rim. It is folk-painted rather than fine porcelain, so the brushwork varies from dish to dish.

Incense is burned daily in Thai and Lao homes and shops, and a low dish like this catches the ash from a cone or short stick. It can also hold rings and small keepsakes. Set it on a surface that can take heat, wipe it clean when cool and never leave burning incense unattended.

Naree picked it for Uniquely Thai Lao TV.
