Benjarong Bowl, 7 Inch, Blue and Gold

This 7-inch Benjarong bowl is Thai porcelain for the table or a shelf. The rim measures 7 inches across. The well is white, the lip is gold, and the outside is deep blue with gold bands and repeating flowers in gold, pink, and red.

Benjarong (เบญจรงค์) is the Thai name for this kind of color-and-gold porcelain. The name is usually understood as “five colors.” The style grew up around court tableware: enamel patterns laid over a porcelain body, then outlined and banded in gold. What began on palace tables later became a bowl people still use at home for fruit, offerings, or display.

The piece in the photo is wide and shallow. Height is not listed, so judge the profile from the picture. It is one bowl, one size.
