Brown Wicker Basket Covered in Cowrie-Style Shells, 10 Inches Wide, 6 Inches Tall

This hand-crafted basket is woven from brown wicker and is 10 inches across and 6 inches tall. Rows of small cream cowrie-style shells are fixed around the outside, from the base up to the rim, and the top edge is bound with a darker wrapped band. The inside is plain woven brown.

Woven baskets are used everywhere in Thailand and Laos, for sticky rice, fruit, laundry and gifts, and shell trim gives this one a coastal look. Use it for napkins, fruit, mail or rolled towels. Wipe with a dry cloth, and avoid soaking it, since water can loosen the weave and the shells.

Naree picked it for Uniquely Thai Lao TV.
