Carved Wood Horse Rearing on Hind Legs, Reddish Brown, 12 Inches Tall

This hand-carved wooden horse rears up on its hind legs with its front hooves raised and its head thrown back. It is carved in warm reddish-brown wood, polished so the grain shows in flowing lines along the neck and body, and it stands on a small rocky base. The figure is 12 inches tall.

Horses appear in Thai and Lao art from temple murals to royal processions, and carved wooden ones are popular at craft markets. A rearing pose gives a lot of movement to a shelf or desk. Dust with a soft cloth, and avoid damp and strong sun so the wood does not dry or crack.

Naree chose it for Uniquely Thai Lao TV.
