Carved Wooden Swan Painted White with Openwork Body and Colored Glass Accents, 12 Inches Tall

This swan is carved from wood and painted white. It measures 12 inches tall, 10 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep. The curved neck bends forward, the body is pierced with small openings in a lattice pattern, and tiny pieces of colored glass catch the light along the wings. It stands on an oval base.

In Thailand skilled artisans decorate carved wood with gold leaf and colored glass, a technique seen on temple doors and shrine furniture. In homes abroad, a piece like this works well on a shelf, a mantel or a dining table. Dust the openwork with a soft brush and keep it away from damp.
