Carved Wooden Swan Painted White with Tall Neck and Colored Glass Accents, 17 Inches Tall

This swan is carved from wood and painted white. It is 17 inches tall, 10 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep. The neck rises high and curves at the top, and the head looks upward. The body is pierced with small openings in a lattice pattern, with tiny pieces of colored glass set along the wings, and an oval base holds it steady.

In Thailand skilled artisans decorate carved wood with gold leaf and colored glass, a technique found on temple doors and shrine furniture. The taller shape of this swan suits a console, a mantel or a floor-level display. Dust the openwork with a soft brush and keep the piece away from damp.
