Cast Bronze Wednesday Buddha, 14 Inches

A standing figure in a gold finish. The right shoulder is bare. The robe covers the other shoulder and falls to the ankles. Both hands hold a small bowl at the waist. The hair is a cap of curls under a flame-shaped finial. The feet stand on a lotus that sits on a many-sided base, with a patterned panel on the front. A pink ribbon at one ankle is a shop tag.

The title calls the metal cast bronze and the day Wednesday. In the Thai weekday set, Wednesday’s figure stands and holds an alms bowl. The old text calls this the reclining posture. The photographs do not. The address calls the metal brass. The gold is the surface color, not solid gold. The title’s 14-foot mark is a typo for 14 inches. Two of the photo files are named 8 and 11. Nothing in the pictures measures the height.

Cast bronze is made by lost wax. A wax model is packed in clay, the wax is burned out, and molten bronze is poured into the hollow. After the metal sets, the clay is broken off, and the surface is finished.

One statue, base included. Dust it. Do not scour the gold.
