10" Eighth-Day Earth Buddha – Cast Bronze Calling the Earth

The most familiar temple pose in Thailand: legs crossed, left hand in the lap, right hand reaching to the ground, palm inward. Thai call this calling the earth to witness—Pang Man Wichai. It is the moment before awakening, when the Buddha asks the earth goddess to stand as proof against Mara.

This image is about 10 inches tall, in cast bronze from the same A-B-450 line as the other weekday figures. Lost-wax work: wax model, clay mold, wax burned out, bronze poured, mold broken, surface finished. The gesture reads clearly at this height. Resin copies of the same pose feel hollow beside it.

In Thai custom, the “eighth day” or extra-day Buddha is often this earth-touching form—used when a birth falls outside the simple seven-day set, or kept by anyone who wants the victory-over-Mara image at home. The story of Phra Mae Thorani wringing water from her hair belongs to that night. It is sacred narrative, not a luck charm.
