Hand-Carved Dark Hardwood Monkey with Paw Over Mouth on Leafy Base, 11 Inches Tall

This solid hardwood monkey is hand carved with exquisite detail and stands 11 inches tall. It sits on a base of leaves and branches, with one paw held over its mouth, wide eyes and carefully cut fur. The wood is a deep, dark brown with a satin polish that shows the grain.

Monkeys are a lively presence in Thai and Lao life, from the temples of Lopburi to the Ramakien epic, where Hanuman leads the monkey army. This one suits a desk, a bookshelf or an entry table. Dust it with a soft brush, and keep it out of damp and strong sun so the wood stays smooth.

Naree picked it for Uniquely Thai Lao TV.
