Hill Tribe Doll with Child, 12 Inches

One souvenir doll, 12 inches tall, fixed to a black base. A smaller child is part of the same piece, carried on her back in a striped cap with an orange pom-pom. You do not get a second doll to take off and play with.

Her cap is turquoise cloth with a rust-colored band and silver-colored discs at the side. Strands of multicolored beads and more metal-colored discs sit at the neck. Black sleeves end in silver-colored cuffs. A white skirt has a wide pink embroidered band at the hem, and long red yarn hangs over the front. One hand holds a tall open-weave basket. A smaller round basket is held at the other side.

The title on the old listing says, Karen or Yang. Those are different peoples of the northern hills, and this doll does not settle which clothes it is copying. Hill-tribe dolls sold in Thailand are market souvenirs. The beads, coins, fringe, and a child on the back are the usual souvenir recipe, not a measured copy of one village’s dress.
