Hand-Carved Teak Thai Lady with Basket on Head and Fish, 20 Inches Tall

This Thai lady is skillfully hand carved from solid teak in the northern villages of Thailand. She stands 20 inches tall on a rounded base, balancing a basket on her head and carrying a fish in one hand. The teak has a warm golden-brown tone, and the long skirt and shawl fall in simple, smooth folds.

Carrying a load on the head is an everyday skill in village life across Thailand and Laos, and the fish and basket suggest a trip home from the river or the market. This carving suits a hallway, a shelf or a table. Dust it with a soft brush and keep it away from damp and strong sun.
