Laotian Funeral Canopy Set

A funeral canopy set. In the photographs, it is hung over a bed: a shiny brocade cover, a roof, side curtains, and a skirt of gold-colored beads. The fringe hangs in points, and many of the strands end in a small metal leaf. The red and yellow displays also have a bead piece hanging in the center. The white set, laid flat, shows several panels, a pillow, and a smaller piece. The page doesn't include a parts list, so the parcel is what confirms the count.

No inch size on the page matches the photographs. The old 21 by 10 by 23-inch line is the wrong scale for a bed canopy. The fiber is not named. Naree selected the set while shopping in Thailand or Laos. In both countries, a canopy like this is set over the bed or the coffin at a funeral, and cloth of this kind is also offered at a temple.

The bead fringe tangles. Fold it, and do not wash the set in a machine.
