Painted Hand-Carved Wood Island Dancer with Raised Arms, 30 Inches Tall

This tall statue is a hand-carved dancer made from solid wood and stands 30 inches tall. The dancer's arms stretch overhead with the hands together, and the figure wears a short painted skirt with a patterned band. The paint runs from deep red through orange to yellow, and the base is painted in flame-like tones.

Dance figures are a popular subject for carvers in Thailand, where classical and folk dance are part of festivals and village life. A tall piece like this suits a hallway, a corner or a shelf where it can be viewed from a distance. Dust it with a soft brush and keep it out of damp and strong sun.
