Teakwood Frame with Print of Thai Princess Suphankalaya

This framed print shows Princess Suphankalaya (Phra Suphankanlaya), a princess of Ayutthaya remembered as the elder sister of King Naresuan. She is seated in a gold and orange silk costume with her hands resting before her, painted in warm colors. The print sits in a carved teakwood frame with a beaded edge and a lacquer finish.

According to Thai history, she was taken to Hongsawadi (Bago) as a hostage with her younger brothers, among them Prince Naresuan, after the fall of Ayutthaya in 1569. This is a reproduction print rather than an original painting. Hang the frame with secure hardware, dust it with a soft cloth and keep it away from damp.
