Resin Thursday Buddha, Yellow Spring Robe

This is the Thursday Buddha in Thai weekday custom: seated meditation, legs crossed, both hands in the lap, right palm over left. Thai images call the pose Pang Samathi (ปางสมาธิ). The story tied to it is the last sitting under the Bodhi tree. Grass was offered, spread for a seat, and the vow was to stay there until enlightenment was finished.

The robe is a spring yellow. In the weekday set, Thursday is the yellow day, which is why this color is the one people ask for when the birthday falls on Thursday. That match is household custom, not a promise about luck or health.

The figure is cast in colored resin, so the yellow is in the material rather than a coat of paint that has to be renewed. It is lighter than a metal cast of the same pose, which is why the taller size can still sit on a shelf or a home altar.

Sizes

• 17 inches tall: shelf or altar piece
• 33 inches tall: floor or stand piece; check the doorway before you order
• Color: yellow spring robe
• Pose: seated meditation, hands in the lap
• Day: Thursday

Care

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Keep it out of direct sunlight if you want the yellow to stay even, and do not leave it in a hot car. Resin can dull or warp in strong heat.
