Sand-Painted Wood Chicken

A chicken with its head lowered, as if it is looking at the ground. The body is a dull gray-brown with a gritty coat. White lines mark the wing and the tail. The comb and the wattle are red with pale dots. The feet are tan. It stands on a black rectangular base.

The title says the figure is wood under sand mixed into the paint. The photograph shows that grit. It does not show bare wood, and it is not a glazed ceramic. The old text lists the height at about 12.5 inches. Nothing in the picture confirms that number. The same text places the carving in Bali, Indonesia. It does not name a village.

One figure, base included. The sandy coat sheds if you scrub it. Dust it. Do not wash it.
