Cast Bronze Saturday Buddha, Naga Canopy Pose, 8 Inches

This cast bronze statue shows the Buddha seated in meditation on stacked tiers while a naga rises behind him and spreads a many-headed hood overhead. The finish is a bright gold tone, and the photos show a small tag tied to the front. It is listed at 8 inches tall.

In Thai custom each day of the week has its own Buddha image, and this pose, called Pang Nak Prok, is the one for Saturday. It recalls the story of the naga king Mucalinda, who coiled beneath the Buddha and sheltered him with his hood during a storm after his enlightenment. Many Thais keep the image for their birth day on a home altar or give it to someone born on a Saturday.

Naree picked it for Uniquely Thai Lao TV; dust it with a soft cloth to keep the finish bright.
