10" Thursday Buddha – Cast Bronze Pang Samathi

This is the Thursday image in the Thai weekday set: Pang Samathi (ปางสมาธิ)—the Buddha seated in meditation. Legs crossed, both hands in the lap, palms up, right over left. The pose points to the long sit under the Bodhi tree before awakening.

Height is about 10 inches. The metal is cast bronze (listed in older copy as brass). Thai foundries form the figure in wax, wrap it in clay, fire the mold so the wax leaves, pour molten bronze, then break the shell and finish the surface. That is why the robe folds and the face stays crisp, and why the statue has weight; resin “birthday Buddhas” do not.
